Bonaventure Beginners Speed Class |
|
Welcome to our learn how to speed skate classes! Since they are not 'learn how to skate' classes our beginning speed skating classes are for those who are already comfortable skating on their inline skates, have good balance and can 'cross over' (balancing on one foot while picking the other foot up to cross it over in order to turn) while going around a circle. If you are interested in learning and practicing what it takes to race on the indoor short track our beginner speed classes are for you. You will be taught the basic and fundamentally necessary skills of inline speed skating. Attending classes regularly to practice the drills under the direction of team member and MI speed coach Pam Corney gives you the opportunity to take your newly aquired skills competitively to the local and possibly National level by advancing to Michigans' SSII Inline Speed Team. Classes are held on Monday at Bonaventure in Farmington Hills and Thursday at Skatin Station II in Canton. See our practice schedule for class times. As with any team sport practice wear comfortable clothing (shorts and t-shirt) bring your inline skates, helmet, water bottle and SMILE ! If you would like more information please contact Pam Corney at

In these classes you will learn the basics of speedskating including starts, cornering, passing, and overall technique. Skaters are evaluated by SSII Beginner Coach Pam Corney to determine if their skills have developed enough to advance to the competitive inline speed skating team 'SSII Racing'. As a member of SSII Racing each skater will have the opportunity to skate on a regional and national level based on their skating ability. |
